The non-expanding Deep Impact projectile is hard-cast lead encapsulated in a polymer jacket with a flutes casted into the bullet. After penetrating thick clothing or a tough hide and entering soft tissue, the specially designed flutes in the nose harness the rotational energy of the bullet during the initial 6 inch of penetration. As the bullet penetrates it tumbles in a controlled, predictable fashion that delivers very consistent terminal performance that equals or exceeds conventional hollow point designs.
